OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
A paediatric occupational therapist helps children develop the skills needed for everyday activities, also known as "occupations" for children.
These occupations include things like playing, learning, self-care tasks (like eating and dressing), and socialising. Hayley, our occupational therapist, supports her clients to develop the physical, cognitive, sensory, and social-emotional skills necessary to participate fully in these activities.
Areas of Developmental Supports
Sensory Integration
The OT can explore activities and strategies to help the child process and respond to sensory input (like touch, movement, sights, and sounds).
Fine Motor Skills
The OT can support the child in strengthening their hand-eye coordination, grasp patterns, handwriting, and manipulation of small objects.
Gross Motor Skills
The OT can support the child in strengthening their balance, coordination, strength, and motor planning for activities like running, jumping, and playing sports.
Visual-Motor Integration
The OT can support the child in enhancing their ability to coordinate visual perception and motor skills, essential for tasks like copying shapes, writing, and reading.
Self-care Skills
The Ot can support the child in developing or strengthening skills such as dressing, feeding, grooming, and toileting to promote independence.
Play Skills
The OT utilises play-based interventions to support social skills, problem-solving, and self-expression.
Environmental Modifications
The OT can offer suggestions for adapting home, school, or play environments to better support a child’s needs.
Assessment
Hayley can provide developmental, sensory and functional capacity assessments for children aged 0-10 years.
